What about the fishies?

In the past two weeks of Primetime, we studied about the Flood, and Noah’s Ark. In the beginning of chapter 6, God saw the depths of man’s sin, and how there wasn’t a single thought of man untainted by sin. He chose to destroy the world through a flood, save for a single righteous man and his family.

Because of this man, Noah’s faith, not all of creation was wiped out. And through faith, Noah labored to build an ark following God’s commandment, over the course of years.

If there are any other thoughts, comments, or lingering questions about the Flood, please share them with us as comments on this post.

One person posted questions that pose a logistical paradox:
Were there dinosaurs on the Ark? If there were, wouldn’t they sink it?? Why are the dinosaurs extinct? What about fish and whales? Did Noah keep an aquarium?

From reading Genesis, it says that God would destroy the animals on the land – not the sea. And considering it was a *flood*, the only fish that would have died were those left on high land as the water receded.

    - Genesis 6:14-16 – God gives Noah specific instructions on design and dimensions. For whatever animal that will come (Genesis 6:20 – all the animals will come to Noah). Is this contrary to v19 where God tells noah to bring into the ark 2 of every kind of animal? Not necessarily. Verse 20 might mean that 2 of every kind of animal will come to Noah. Perhaps the simple act of letting them in is the bringing of the animals in. Anyone else what to share their thoughts on this

    - Genesis 6:20 – God decrees that 2 of every bird and creature that moves along the ground will come to the Ark to be kept alive. The word was destroyed by a flood, and so the waters rose. As such, wouldn’t the habitat of all sea life be preserved?

    Why are the dinosaurs extinct?
With the mass extinction of dinosaurs, this becomes a trickier one. First lets go back to the root, all life on the earth was destroyed in the flood. lets take for arguments sake, the assumption that dinosaurs were around at the time. the flood could have easily accounted for mass deaths to a massive degree. perhaps the rest died off over time, or never really recovered from such a massive drop in population. second, there is also the possibility that they never came on board the ark. maybe they were meant to die off as well?

finally, because scripture neither confirms nor denies their presence onboard the ark, i think it is hard to give any sort of conclusive argument for any case scenario. we can make assumptions and conjectures, but they’ll all just be…assumptions and conjectures.

Regarding the dinosaurs–another hypothesis is that Noah brought on very young animals (not full grown adults).

Then, considering how drastically the atomosphere changed between pre- and post-flood, the new atmosphere could have caused a change in growth patterns. A new, heavier, atmosphere could have inhibited growth the size they had previously experienced.

Certain types of lizards (and other animals of that ilk) are shown to have ties w/ the dinosaurs of old, so that theory isn’t too far-fetched. :)
